Paint types & where to use them
Easy to clean, low odour, dries fast. Top brands: Nippon, Dulux, Benjamin Moore.
Contains anti-mould agents; resists mildew spots for 5+ years.
Zero VOC, zero formaldehyde, highly breathable — higher price point.
Hard finish, smooth surface, resists scratches and repeated cleaning.
Stucco, Venetian, rammed-earth effects — requires master craftsmanship.
Sealer coat. Skipping primer cuts the lifespan in half.
HK humidity · moisture-proofing essentials
- 1. Strip peeling old paint down to the skim layer — never patch spots only, or the new paint will peel off with the old.
- 2. Skim 2–3 times, letting each layer fully dry and sanding smooth in between.
- 3. Apply a moisture-block or anti-mould primer to seal the wall's moisture pathways.
- 4. At least two topcoats — light sand after the first before the second.
- 5. Pause painting when humidity > 85% (spring/rainy season) to avoid blushing.
